Week 52, 2017 - On personality, communication, habits - and more

Sunday, December 24th, 2017

Well, it is the season to be jolly - for me that also means a possibility to read texts which are perhaps a bit on the funnier side while still covering intersting topics. In this category, I came across Gabrielle Gresge's text Does Your Myers-Briggs Type Align With Your Harry Potter House? Interestingly enough, it seems that the MTBI type I know I belong to seems to align with the Harry Potter house I have always felt an affinity towards. (INTP and Ravenclaw, if anyone has a couple of questions they want to ask).

Being a nerd, it is difficult for me to let a Christmas pass by without reading the more or less hilarious pieces on why Santa Claus cannot exist, based on Laws of Nature, garnished with arguments on why he does exist anyway. For once, i will leave you without a link - but if you google does santa claus exist physics, you will have plenty of links to go by - or you could choose to take a single day off from reading...

As I know that the first prerequisite for having my message heard is that I communicate it well, communication is always high on my list of topics that I want to constantly attempt to improve. I like the point that Trisha Lewis is making: Communication is an experiment, and we need to constantly experiment if we want to become better communicators.

I, too, have a mobile phone. And i must admit it, even though it in many situations is a great tool, I am a bit afraid of what it is actually doing to me and the way I treat other people. This is something that I need to constantly remind myself about - and for this purpose, Emma Seppälä's text What is Your Phone Doing to Your Relationships? is a great reminder.

As I grow older and grow to know more and more people, I tend to see more and more people who became managers for a lot of the wrong reasons. Wally Bock has written a great piece with the headline Please don't become a boss if ... Maybe more people should look themselves in the mirror before accepting leadership positions and ask themselves: am I doing this for the right reasons? Or should I rather keep out of it?

I am a great believer in the idea that we should always try to become better and smarter versions of ourselves. Partly by getting rid of bad habits, but also by attempting to install new and better ones. Therefore it was with great interest I found (inspired by Julie Winkle Giulioni) and read Lolly Daskal's piece on 18 Habits That Will Make You Smarter

Saturday, December 30th, 2017

As a matter of fact, only shortly after I read the piece about the 18 habits, I came across Rebecca Elvy's text Growth Mindset: What Is It and Why You Should Get One… A text which is also very much about self-development, with an interesting psychological perspective on why it is so important for us to keep the brain's plasticity to be able to develop ourselves.

Again, I hope the above has been able to inspire you in your reading, and I hope you stay tuned for seven new things next week - and hundreds of new things in the year to come, of course.
