Virtual teams become more and more common - yet many of us do not really know how differently we need to treat a virtual team, compared to how we treat our well-known, old-fashioned teams where everyone is within earshot. We need to know more about The Care & Feeding of Virtual Teams - as discussed in the text with the very same name, by Eileen McDargh.

I know authentic leadership is a very hot topic these days, but even when you are authentic, you are in various stages of realism, optimism, pessimism and idealism. And Scott Cochrane inspires with regards to when to apply which in his To Lead Effectively, Know When To Tone Down the Optimism

And while we're talking about optimism: A couple of weeks ago, I was part of a discussion regarding whether the glass is half full or half empty. Janice Kobelsky led me to Devin D. Thorpe's text Deep Optimism: The Unique Outlook Of Social Entrepreneurs, which has a very important point: It is not about how empty or how full the glass is. Think of that, next time you on the verge of deciding that "I better do it myself..."

But then again - one thing is that you want to farm heroes. But from time to time, you will have to step up and be courageous. And that can be difficult. But the good thing is: it can be learned and trained as well. A good place to start is Mary Ila Ward's How to Train Leaders to Act with Courage.
Another great week flew by. Stay tuned, while the next one flies, and let's meet here in a week for seven new things to read.
